Key Responsibilities:

  • Online Counseling: Conduct individual, couples, or family counseling sessions using secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms (consistent with your license scope and areas of expertise).
  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain high-quality, confidential clinical records accurately and promptly, adhering to HIPAA regulations, state licensing board requirements, and ethical best practices.
  • Ethical and Legal Adherence: Practice strictly within the ethical guidelines set forth by the American Counseling Association (ACA) and/or the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), as well as all relevant state and federal laws, including HIPAA.
  • Client Communication: Manage client interactions professionally and efficiently, including scheduling appointments, responding to inquiries, and clearly communicating your counseling approach, fees, and practice policies.
  • Direct Fee Management: Set your own session rates and handle all aspects of billing and payment directly with your clients.

Requirements:

  • Education: Master's Degree in Counseling (e.g., Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, etc.) from a CACREP-accredited program or an equivalent program that meets the educational requirements for licensure in your state(s).
  • Licensure: Must possess a current, active, and unrestricted license to practice professional counseling independently (e.g., LPC, LMHC, LPCC) in at least one US state. You are responsible for ensuring full compliance with all telehealth laws and regulations in any state where you provide services.
  • Experience: Verifiable post-licensure experience providing clinical counseling/psychotherapy, including assessment and treatment planning.
  • Telehealth Competence: Demonstrated proficiency in using HIPAA-compliant telehealth technology (video platforms, secure messaging). Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) or practice management systems is highly beneficial.
  • Legal & Ethical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of HIPAA, state-specific laws and regulations governing professional counseling and telehealth, and applicable professional codes of ethics (e.g., ACA, NBCC).
  • Professional Liability Insurance: Must maintain current professional liability (malpractice) insurance coverage.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent counseling and therapeutic rapport-building skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
    • High degree of empathy, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism.
    • Effective organizational skills and dependability.
