Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Remote Counselling/Therapy Services: Conduct expert online client assessments (within your scope of practice), develop collaborative therapeutic plans, and provide evidence-based counselling and therapeutic interventions to individuals, couples, or families based on your training, qualifications, and recognized competencies.
  • Maintain Professional Records: Ensure accurate, confidential, and timely documentation of all client work, adhering to the ethical guidelines of your professional association(s) and/or regulatory body (if applicable), and relevant federal/provincial privacy legislation.
  • Uphold Ethical Standards: Practice strictly in accordance with the ethical frameworks and standards of proficiency outlined by your professional counselling/therapy association (e.g., CCPA, ACCT, etc.) and/or any applicable provincial regulatory college/body.
  • Direct Client Interaction: Manage client communications regarding appointments, therapeutic agreements, and service fees directly. Maintain your own diary and scheduling.
  • Engage in Clinical Supervision/Consultation: Participate in regular clinical supervision or peer consultation as appropriate for your practice and as recommended or required by your professional association or regulatory body.
  • Optional In-Person Availability: Should you operate your own insured private practice space, you have the option to offer face-to-face sessions coordinated via the platform.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualification & Registration/Certification:
    • Option 1 (For provinces with regulation): Current registration in good standing with a Canadian provincial regulatory body governing counselling therapy or psychotherapy (e.g., as a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT), Licensed Counselling Therapist (LCT), Registered Psychotherapist (RP), or member of a College of Counselling Therapists, etc.), authorizing autonomous practice.
    • Option 2 (Where provincial regulation for the title "Counsellor/Therapist" is not in place or for different scopes of practice): A Master's degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Clinical Social Work (with a therapy focus), or a closely related mental health field from a recognized university.
    • AND (Strongly Recommended for Option 1, Required for Option 2): Certification or membership in good standing with a recognized Canadian national or provincial professional counselling or psychotherapy association that has clear ethical codes and standards of practice (e.g., Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA); membership with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT); or equivalent professional body).
  • Experience: Proven post-qualification experience in delivering counselling and/or therapy services.
  • Right to Work: Must possess the legal right to work on a self-employed basis within Canada.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using secure video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Doxy.me) for therapy delivery and competence in basic electronic record-keeping.
  • Professional Environment: Access to a stable high-speed internet connection and a private, secure workspace conducive to confidential therapy sessions.
  • Core Competencies: Excellent therapeutic relationship skills, active listening, strong communication abilities, empathy, professionalism, reliability, cultural competence, self-awareness, strong ethical judgment, and boundary setting.
  • Professional Commitments: Commitment to ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)/continuing education, reflective practice, and holding appropriate professional liability insurance that covers remote counselling/therapy services across Canada.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Specialized training, certification, or significant experience in specific therapeutic modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Practice, Somatic Approaches, Mindfulness-Based Interventions).
  • Specialised experience working with particular client populations or presenting difficulties (e.g., anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, grief, stress management, life transitions).
  • Prior experience in independent private practice or telehealth delivery.
